Who we are

My name is Brett, I grew up on an acreage just on the outskirts of town. Growing up we always had the unusual animals on the farm, or the interesting oddities of life. As time passed I fell into reptiles from all around the world. I’ve kept South American tortoises, to Argentine tegus, to snakes from Australia and plenty in between. I used to breed ball pythons, mexican black kingsnakes and the likes but ended up getting out of that hobby as I grew older however I kept up breeding mice not only for my own collection that still sticks around but also raw food diets for cats and the like. When COVID took over I looked for a hobby that I could dive into and spend some time divulging time into. This is when the love of fungi and mycology started.

Through a friends father sparked the fire that burns more and more every day as the saying goes, I fell down the rabbit hole and kept falling. After researching and looking for some other locals or others that had the same passion I had now developed, I found the Alberta Mycological Society right here in Edmonton and the blaze was set. I met up with one of their regional coordinators for some forages in the Red Deer area and when she found out I enjoyed not only all sides of indoor cultivation, but also had a fascination of wild fungi we became fast great friends. Traveling all over foraging and learning the vast extensive nature of our own mushrooms here in Alberta.

Now fast forwarding some time, I’ve joined forces with the Alberta Mycological Society as a member and have joined them on their Great Alberta Mycological Forays around Alberta and got to meet and chat with some of the top mycologists on top of some of the pioneers in the Mycology field. I’ve also now become a “corporate” member of the Alberta Mycological Society and supply Live Cultures, Grainspawn and Kits to the public to further expand the knowledge about the benefits and the amazing potential of fungi!

If your interested in further chatting of any and all things fungi, feel free to message me on facebook or email!
