Armadillidium gestroi, often called "Yellow Spotted Isopods," are a captivating species prized by isopod enthusiasts for their striking appearance. Here's a summary of key information about them:

Appearance:

  • Distinctive Coloration: They are known for their bright yellow spots or markings against a darker background, usually black or brown. This vibrant coloration makes them highly sought after.

  • Size: They are a relatively large isopod species, growing up to 1.8 centimeters in length.

  • Body Shape: They have a rounded, pill-shaped body, typical of Armadillidium isopods, which allows them to roll into a ball when threatened.

Habitat and Care:

  • Origin: Native to France and Italy.

  • Environment: They thrive in semi-arid to temperate environments.

  • Temperature: Prefer temperatures between 70-78°F (21-26°C).

  • Lifespan: They can live for 1-2 years, sometimes longer with proper care.

  • Temperament: They are generally docile and easy to handle.

  • Bioactive Clean-up Crew: They are popular for use in bioactive terrariums as they help break down organic waste and maintain a healthy ecosystem.

Important Notes:

  • Availability: They can be somewhat difficult to find in some regions.

  • Pricing: Due to their popularity and relative scarcity, they can be more expensive than other isopod species.
